Prayer

by Rev. Dr. Jacqueline DeBerry

"O Lord, while we desire wonderful counsel, we realize that we are not The Wonderful Counselor; while we desire peace, we know that we are not The Prince of Peace; while we desire love, we recognize that we are not The Source of Love; and we remember that and while we seek joy, the joy of the Lord is our strength.  So we turn to You, O Lord, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, God of Love, Everlasting Father, and Creator of Joy.

Some of us have memories of an absent father or a father who was less than loving.  So hold us, comfort us, cradle us in Your Everlasting Arms.  We come to You as we are knowing that You Alone meet our needs and the deepest desire of our hearts.

To You, we offer our pain, our loneliness, our anger, our hurt, our resentment, and bitterness.  Take this hurt that brings us feelings of isolation, pain, and confusion, and use it for our good and Your glory.  Heal us.  Make us whole.  Grant us newness of life from this day forward.  Come and grant us Your Peace O Lord; Give us Your Strength; Grant us Your Love, perfect and unconditional; Lead us through this long dark night of the soul by Your Counsel; Remove our pain; and fill us with Your Everlasting, Perfect, Unconditional Love."  Amen
